| What's In It For YOU?
There are many national organizations that have been very successful for specialty "affinity" groups;
The American Automobile Association (AAA), American Association of Retired People (AARP) and many smaller groups. The disabled are just such a group; however, there is no organization that represents the total group--disabled persons.
There are a multitude of organizations with missions and goals that represent many different groups within the disabled community. It is one of my goals for
The Alliance for People With Disabilities to help each of these groups to be able to help as many disabled persons through the dissemination of information and the promotion of the various
organizations' goals.
Recently such an omnibus organization was formed to represent the people
the issues that will make the lives of the disabled more accessible, more integrated, and much improved. This organization is
The Alliance. The organization was formed to promote the various causes, problems, accessibility, reference sources, web access & information, purchasing power, and offer a variety of other services for
its members.
Support The Alliance through your membership and membership promotion. Through
The Alliance, we will be bringing unity to the disabled community.
The Alliance has recently acquired (through license) very specialized web software.
This web site will serve as a portal to the information on the web relating specifically to disabled sites and issues, disabled help sites, adaptive sports information, government sites, and many other sites of interest to the disabled.
As the site
evolves it will have all of the features of a start page--similar to
msn.com, qwest.com, iwon.com, etc. There will be search engines, news articles, reference links, and many more features that will help the users find the information on the web easily.
In addition, users will be able to make this page their "start page" and customize the page for their own use.
You do not need to be a member to utilize this valuable resource, it will be available for public use.
The more people become familiar with the issues facing the disabled, the more support we will garner from the public. The site will include:
- Online newsletter with disabled news items updated daily
- Organizational news bulletin board
- Event information with links
- Conference and meeting directories
- Search engine with other search engine links
- Links to disabled sites (w/descriptions)
- Link to International Adaptive Sports Association (a sister organization)
Shopping
- Membership Information?
- Bulletin Boards
- Government Programs
- E-mail accounts for members
- Disabled owned business section
- Information programs for the disabled
- Other programs relating to the disabled
Once active, there will be constant additions and improvements as more information is added.
Check back often to see our progress and grow with us.
The Alliance is currently developing a program of discounts for members that will include national firms and local merchants for travel, lodging, dining, sporting goods, gifts, clothing, health care items, and a multitude of other goods and services.
To get these discounts, simply present your membership card. Participating vendors will be identified at their business and on our web site under member discounts. Users will be able to search by products, type, area, etc. to find the vendor that offers member discounts and other services for the disabled. Of course, there will be links to the vendors web site or to a page for the vendor on our site. These discount benefits will only be available for members.
This is a massive undertaking.
Charter Membership
It will take some time before all of the proposed programs are fully developed and in place. During this developmental stage,
The Alliance is offering a discounted "Charter Membership". The discounted rate will be honored as long as the membership is kept current through renewal. Any lapse in membership will cause the charter membership to expire. Membership is not just for the disabled. For every disabled person, there are a number of friends and family that are affected by the problems facing the disabled. These friends and family will have access to the same articles, programs, and purchase discounts that the disabled need.
For this reason, we have a variety of memberships available as follows:
| Charter
Membership |
| 1
Year |
3

| $20 |

$175 |
- Friends and Family Memberships are available at the same rates.
- Gift Memberships may be purchased at the same rates above.
